Brainstorming Saves 95%

Have you had a head scratching session today – wondering how the bloomin’ heck you’re going to get over a problem? Well, maybe it’s time to ‘phone a friend’ quite literally. What seems like a huge hurdle for you (or me) could be made so much simpler by bouncing the idea off someone else…

Running your own business single-handed can be a fantastic way to carve your own path and make your own way in the world without having a bickering management team telling you what to do and without having to constantly decide between yours and someone else’s ideas.

But – lets be honest, quite often it is such a refreshing break to get another opinion. It is helpful to you and your business when someone else can shed some light on a problem that you are looking at with blinkers on – they see it from the outside and, very often, make you aware of something glaringly obvious- but, perhaps, not obvious to you while your head is deep in the trenches of the problem.

Just the other day I was looking for the solution to a problem – well – I saw it as a problem. I called up a friend and bounced the idea around and in 20 minutes or so (give or take a few minutes for bloke talk) there was a quick and easy solution. Not only was it quick and easy, it was 95% cheaper than what I had previously been thinking was the one and only way forward.

Now I don’t know about you but the 95% cheaper option is always gonna look good – especially if it works – which in this case it did.

We all know people who have skills, knowledge and experience in things that are not necessarily our key strengths and it pays to listen. It make sense to ask someone who could well know something we don’t or could most likely spot something obvious that we are not going to spot in a month of Sundays because we are buried in the business and the current dilemma.

So ask. I bet you’ve got someone on speed dial who can help you work through a ‘problem’ and, in many cases, through a bit of tit for tat, it ain’t gonna cost you an arm and a leg.

Do you have any interesting cases where two heads were better than one’?

Yes, I do. Speaking with you on the phone we both came up with a solution and we will both benefit. I highly recommend sometimes letting go of trying to do everything and let others help and you both benefit!

Very good point there Cyndi. I didn't realize it at the time of writing – but this post sits as a perfect compliment and follow-up to the post about Virtual Assistants http://www.martinkoss.com/social-branding/so-mu…

Not everyone has the right skill set to achieve the best in internet marketing and social 'branding' etc., and, VAs are a perfect example of hiring in the skills.
