How Steve Garfield Sold Me A Microphone

I don’t know if Steve Garfield (video blogger and author of ‘Get SeenOnline Video Secrets to Building Your Business) can sing and dance but I guess not ‘cos he makes no song and dance over instructional videos. Here’s a couple of clear winners for me that will show anyone thinking of creating a ‘review’ or ‘howto’ type video -  how to do it.

Get to the damn point and show how well it works!

How many times have you zipped over to YouTube to find a review of a product only to find dozens of ‘un-boxing’ vids and people reading every single technically challenging specification from the side of the box?

Is that really what you want in a product review and/or demonstration?

Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Microphone

The other day I was looking for a new microphone and I had an idea of the exact product I was interested in but I wanted to ‘hear’ it. Ok so you may be wondering ‘how do you hear a microphone’… Trust me, you can tell the difference – even after YouTube has injected an overdose of compression.

Thank you Steve Garfield for keeping it simple

In just 29 seconds, Steve demonstrates exactly what I wanted to know; What does it sound like compared to ___ something else I can relate to.

Steve Garfield gets to the point, says what he needs to say and gets out again…

Do I need a pop screen? I dunno? But I do now. Thanks to another clear demostration in just 25 seconds. No singing or dancing – just the facts I needed.

In a total of 54 seconds Steve Garfield’s videos told me what I had struggled to find out in a previous hour or so on the ‘web. 2 simple little ‘review’ videos that told me nothing but everything I needed to know before shelling out 110 of our English pounds.

Thank you Steve for keeping it simple…

By the way; do you sing and dance?

Thanks Martin for sharing that. I still love the sound I get from the AT2020 mic. Glad I could help.

Pleased I found the videos Steve. What a lovely deep and clear recording it produces. Can I ask: Do you use the pop screen much or only when speaking up-close to the mic? I typically sit 1 to 2 feet from the mic and at that distance I don’t notice a huge difference with or without the pop-screen.

That is an awesome demo of the mic. I will have to look at that mic also. I was looking at the Yeti USB Microphone, but that sounds great too! Thanks for the great blog post Martin and to Steve Garfield for the videos.

Hi there, Steve. Yes, all thanks to Steve for the demos. I don't know much about the Yeti USB Mic but this one – brilliant. I've done a couple of recordings with it so far and – boy oh boy – it is nice. It's inspired me to do more audio, that's for sure.
