Can You Tidy Your Clutter Please?

The concept of “tidy up after yourself” is one I have always been aware of and something we encourage our kids to do. No point leaving the mess for someone else to clear up. After all, it’s your mess (or mine).

Yesterday I was helping someone wade the rough waters of Facebook changes and I was asking my “caller” to click button “X” followed by clicking on “Y” and then doing “Z”.

Sounds simple enough, right?

Wrong!

Can You Tidy Your Clutter Please?

You see, my “caller in distress” was simultaneously looking at a couple of “how tos” that referred to what Facebook looked like in early 2010 and earlier. So, naturally, they are sat there cross referencing what I’m saying with the screen shots on their screen and completely getting their knickers in a twist.

Shortly afterwards (and a couple of strong caffeine injections later) I did a few searches on the mighty “G” for some Facebook tips and, sure enough, I was unable to find a single one that was up to date. But, there was 228 million of them all together!

That’s 228 million bits of information that is outdated and therefore unhelpful.

It’s clutter! Simple as that.

We all have a little bit. Kind of like we all have a pile of paper somewhere under the desk or in the bottom filing drawer. But some have a whole filing system of things that really need to be squeezed through the shredder…
