It never fails to amaze me when I get sales letters (spam emails) from people I have heard of or not, from people I’ve dealt with and those I have never invited into my inbox.
What does amaze me, now and then, is when you hear from someone who, for years, has pretentiously gone about their business with an appearance of “look how amazing and successful I am – you need me” you get what can only be termed as a begging letter. Begging for some work.
Had they been honest over the years and not over-hyped themselves via over-priced services (you know I’m worth my inflated prices) and excessive squeeze pages to build their mailing list.
The problem is that many squeeze pages make unreal claims like “I am the most sought after marketing guru in the world but today and today only I am going to give you access to my exclusive members club for just $47“… Why? Why the BS? What’s the chances I will trust you in the future when you approach me with such hype?
You get the ones who offer “the ultimate social media marketing training by the worlds best social media expert” and then, a year or two later, you get some spam email from them looking for some more customers.
Gosh darn it. If you are as good as you say you are then why all of a sudden are you pratting about sending out spam to drum up some business?
One of my clients got an email yesterday from an SEO Guru who they used briefly about 10 years ago. 10 years ago they claimed to be the be all and end all of search engine optimisation and could only take a select few clients. Years have past and I often see them touting about offering insane deals.
Click any of the links in the email and you arrive at a mile long sales page, aka a squeeze page. Called a squeeze page because, ultimately, the writer of the page is trying to squeeze every ounce of emotion from you to the point where they squeeze your email address out of your grasp and your cash from your back pocket.
Oh but such amazing videos and testimonials. Wow! These guys are awesome. They are the best… Or are they?
Why the heavy handed squeeze page and OTT email begging letters if they really are THAT good?
