I’m sure most people who live or grew up in the UK will have heard the phrase “Yesterdays News is Tomorrows Fish & Chip Wrapper” and that applies to the web – what you publish today could be completely forgotten (or be out of sight) by tomorrow.
While it is true that what you publish says a lot about you or your company and nothing should be published unless it paints the right picture – you should also always remember that unless you time it right, unless you “strike while the iron’s hot” you can completely miss an opportunity and be off the ‘time line’ by tomorrow.
Get your new blog post out there at the right time and your target ‘readership’ will see it, read it and, hopefully if everything is done in the right way, respond to it by taking the action you want them to take.
But get your timing wrong. Publish a new post, tweet it or post it into Facebook while the bulk of your intended audience is snoring at 3am, and it could end up as fish ‘n’ chip wrapper before 99% of them even know it’s there.
I see a lot of posts on t’interweb that seem to miss this point completely.
Why post or Tweet or update your status at times when nobody is listening, reading, watching? Completely pointless and a waste of a marketing or branding opportunity.
Timing is Everything (almost)…
- Study your market.
- Study your readers’ online habits.
- Get to understand when your intended audience is online – these are your potential market.
Get your latest content, blog post, tweets and updates out there at the right time.
Hit them [your readers / target audience] at the right time with the right message and you could get new business. But throw your message out there at the wrong time and by tea-time all your hard work, your research, your writing, your designing, recording and editing, could have become nothing more than fish and chip wrapper.
