I’m sure you are already aware that the two amazing tools ‘Seesmic‘ and ‘Ping.FM‘ have merged last year and now, combined, provide pretty much all the cross posting you will ever need (well, until 50 more platforms jump on the bandwagon)…But:
Where is the link between Seesmic and Ping.FM?I have looked on Seesmic’s website and Ping.FM and, although they both ‘blogged’ about the merge, neither seems ta have posted any info about how we can ‘use’ the two together without needing to use two different methods or plugins or desktop apps.
Seesmic have a ‘promo’ on their home page with the statement “Start using Ping.FM today” which links into the blog post about the merge and, even though a few people have asked the question in the comments, there is no indication about how the two willa ctually merge from the end user’s perspective.
So we still have a Seesmic Desktop app that seems to lack any integration with the user’s Ping.FM account so if we are using Seesmic Desktop or Seesmic Web to send out our updates, we then need to launch Ping.FM (or use a Ping.FM toolbar or similar) to cross post that status update, mini-blog or full blog post to other platforms.
While I am actually a fan of doing ‘some’ of the cross posting manually – it gets us to alter the content slightly and means we’re not blatantly duplicating 100% – there are times when we just want to do something real simple like a status update, send a photo or a link – and we want to do a complete cross-post from one app.
I know that I would be thrilled to have one app, be it a desktop app, Adobe Air app or a Browser based app, that did all this. And, when news broke of Seesmic and Ping.FM coming together I actually thought that within a few months, this ‘one app’ would be available. But still…. nothing.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe my hours of searching was all in the wrong places… But, I certainly can’t find the link between Seesmic and Ping.FM
Yes I know about Hootsuite! And I love it. Hootsuite is one of my favourite browser based apps. My only issue with it, compared to Seesmic Desktop, is the amount of columns you need running. In Seesmic Desktop you can have all your feeds aggregated into one column. But, yes, I know that Hootsuite hooks into Ping.FM as well as Twitter & Facebook, etc.,
